A 5-A-Side football tournament kicked off in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government yesterday, reports Adebobola Alawode.
TheProfessor Jadesola Akande Sports Complex and 512 Road Stone field, FESTAC Town, which played host to the Amuwo Ultimate Futsal 5-A-Side Football Championship, came alive when the tourney kicked off amidst pomp and pageantry.
The event was declared open by Hon. Adewale Ogunbakin J.P., who represented the Chairman of the council, Comrade Ayodele Adewale. About 1,000 youths converged on the two centres to jostle for the N200,000 prize money and other consolatory prizes.
Before the official kick off, Hon. Ogunbakin advised the youths not to see the championship as a do-or-die affair, but as an avenue to foster good relationship and exhibit their talents.
He noted that the feat of 401 Planners and Bablo F.C, the teams that won the Lagos Street Soccer Champions, spurred the LG to organise the Futsal championship, which will end on 18 December.
In some of the matches played yesterday, Ice Breakers walloped Amuwo Rattlers 5-0, Parapo F.C defeated Lake View 4-2, while Young Boys outclassed Raji Rasaki 5-2.
