A traditional ruler, Oba Sikiru Babatunde Aguda of Agudaland, and the residents of a constituency in Surulere, Lagos, South-West Nigeria, have cried out over what they described as their continued neglect by their representative at the State House of Assembly.
They accused Hon. Razak Balogun representing Surulere Constituency 1 of abandoning them after they voted for him as member of the state House of Assembly.
Speaking with some journalists recently, the Alaguda accused Hon. Balogun of neglecting those who elected him in 2003. The monarch also claimed that Balogun does not have a Constituency office in the area.
He named some of the challenges to include lack of potable water and infrastructure.
Aguda said: “Ever since we elected him, we have not had the opportunity to meet with him.
“The only person we see from time to time is the Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area, Chairman, Babatunde Aliyu Kazeem.”
Some constituents who spoke with P.M.NEWS about the lawmaker also corroborated the monarch’s claims.
They said the lawmaker who is serving his second term in office does not relate with them or implement programmes to assist them like his colleagues in the House often do.
They said they have made several efforts to reach him, all to no avail as he was not available. They threatened to ensure that he does not represent them after this time.
However, when contacted, Hon. Balogun described the allegations as a figment of the reporter’s imagination adding that he was not sure anybody could make such allegations against him.
He explained that as a lawmaker, he was elected to represent the people and that he had carried out his responsibilities well adding that since he had spent several years of his existence in the constituency, it would be uncalled for to be accused of distancing himself from his constituents.
