Two men, Saturday Inogbinabor 50 and Monday Yakubu 20, have been arrested by the police at Yaba Police Division, Adekunle, Yaba, Lagos and later arraigned before a court for allegedly robbing one Yakub Adegboyi of his money and other valuables.
The incident occurred at Kadara Street, Ebute Meta, Lagos, South West Nigeria, recently.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the suspects, operating in an unregistered cab, picked the victim as passenger from Oyingbo area of Lagos Mainland to Yaba bus stop, but instead of taking him to Yaba as agreed, they reportedly veered off the road to Kadara Street and pushed him off the vehicle after dispossessing him of N350,000 and other valuables.
The victim reported the matter at the Yaba Police Station and the suspects were arrested at their hide out following a tip off from members of the public.
They were later charged before an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court on a two-count charge of stealing, an offence punishable under Section 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap L 17 Vol.II Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The charge read: “that you, Saturday Inegbinabor, Monday Yakubu and others at large, on 25 November, 2010, at about 4 p.m. at Kadara Street, Ebute Meta in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N350,00, property of one Yakub Adegboyi.â€
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Miss Kayode, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in the like sum.
The magistrate also directed that the sureties must be community leaders and blood relations, while their addresses are verified. She adjourned the matter till 12 January, 2011.
However, the defendants were ordered remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Apapa, as they could not perfect the bail conditions.
