Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State has been commended for resuscitatingÂ the moribund Traditional Sports in the state.
The commendation was made by His Royal Highness, Oba Abass Ajibode, the Olu of IjuÂ Ishaga, who was among the dignitaries that graced the just concluded one-dayÂ Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojokoro Traditional Sports Carnival held at Vetland Primary School,Â Oko-Oba Agege.
The tourney was organised by Classic Sports in conjunction with the Office of theÂ Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Fashola headed byÂ Prince Olawale Oladunjoye.
Oba Ajibode, while pouring encomiums on Governor Fashola said: â€œI am very glad toÂ witness people playing Ayo Olopon, cards, draughts and ram charging games in anÂ organised manner like this.
â€œIâ€™m so excited about our governorâ€™s passion for sports, especially at theÂ grassroots. Fashola has been using sports to empower not only our youths, but theÂ elderly with the traditional games. This is a good step in the right direction,â€ heÂ said.
At the end of the event,Â Prince Oladunjoye gave awards to four traditional rulers,Â two Local Governments Council bosses and chairperson of Classic Sports, Mrs.Â Olwakemi Jaiyeola.
