Akunyili Quits Cabinet, PDP To Pursue Senatorial Ambition

Professor Dora Akuyili, the Minister of Information and Communications to pursue today quit President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to pursue her senatorial ambition on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

Akuyili told journalists at the end of today’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council that her resignation will take effect from tomorrow.

The former Director General of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control this afternoon picked up the senatorial form for the Anambra Central District on the platform of her new party.

The former Minister told journalists that though she is leaving her comfort zone with her resignation from the cabinet, she is motivated by her desire to join Governor Peter Obi in the task of developing Anambra State.

“I have therefore decided to join my Governor who is doing a great job in Anambra State as a Senator on the platform of APGA”, Akuyili said.

PM NEWS gathered that Akuyili’s choice of APGA may have been motivated by the fact that she has been promised the ticket of the party by the Anambra State chapter of APGA.

Meanwhile, Mr. Labaran Maku, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Communications is now the substantive minister in the ministry.
