The Pepsi Football Academy Youth League, otherwise known as the Pepsi Festival, which commence on Tuesday at the Football College Orile Imo near Abeokuta, Ogun State will end today.
The tournament, that featured students of U-13 and U-15 teams of the Academy, saw the youngsters exhibiting their skills in Ogun State. In the first matches in the U-13 group PFA North 1 defeated PFA Lagos 1 team 2-0, while PFA West 2 lost 0-1 to the Football College team. The final matches hold this afternoon before the closing ceremony.
After watching the kids in action, Director of Pepsi Football Academy, Dr. Kasimawo Laloko said the future of Nigerian football is very bright, noting that the football administrators need to do extra work to identify and harness the abundant young talents in the country.
It was gathered that Nigerian coaches, who are often accused of fielding overage players in age-grade international competitions did not show up at the football festival in Ogun State.
