National player,  Morufat Idris, is not happy with the dearth of tournaments in the  country’s table tennis scene.

Idris told P.M.Sports that if the local players are to be in their best form,  tournaments like the Asoju Oba Championship should be organised regularly at the  national level.

The 42th edition of Asoju Oba tourney is ongoing at the Molade Okoya Indoor Sports  Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

Morufat said the turnout at the  tourney is quite impressive this year and urged  the organisers of the competition to  allow players from other states participate in  the subsequent competitions to give it a national outlook.

Morufat said: “Sir Molade Okoya Thomas as a lover of sports has contributed to the  development of table tennis in the past 42 years, but he cannot do it alone.”

She stated that it was the tourney that brought her into the limelight, and admitted  that there are talents all over the country that are even better than her but  do  not have the opportunity and exposure she has  through the Asoju Oba competition.
