The 42nd Aso-Oju Oba Table Tennis Championship will come end today at the MoladeÂ Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.
In the Menâ€™s singles final, which will be played this evening, Ganiyu Ashimiyu willÂ slug it out with Akeem Adeniyi, while Ganiyat Olatunde will battle Rashidat OgundeleÂ in the womenâ€™s singles.
Ashimiyu, a member of Union Bank Table Tennis Club told P.M.Sports yesterday that heÂ deserves to play in todayâ€™s final. â€œI have come a long way and it will be aÂ disappointment if I fail to lift the trophy. I expect a tough match from myÂ opponent, but Iâ€™ll come out victorious,â€ he boasted.
Todayâ€™s final promises to be colourful as the organisers are expecting the GovernorÂ of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Deputy Governor, Sarah Sosan, formerÂ Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sports Commissioner, Prince AdemolaÂ Adeniji-Adele, Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to the Governor,Â Prince â€˜Wale Oladunjoye and top members of the stateâ€™s Sports Council as well as theÂ white cap chiefs in Lagos.
