Lagos Island East Football Club proved their supremacy over their counterparts, Ikoyi Obalende FC, in one of the Week 13 matches played on Wednesday in the ongoing qualifying round of the Lagos Junior league.
Lagos Island East defeated Ikoyi team 2-1 in a pulsating encounter watched by a capacity crowd at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island.
An early goal in the three minutes from Richard Godwin who wore Lagos Island East’s number 10 charged up the game, but 32nd minute later, Philemon Enugu equalised with a beautiful flying header from a good cross into the goal area from the right wing.
Pressure was on the two teams to score more goals before the referee stopped the match in the half time.
Jeff Okoku scored the winner for the Lagos Island East FC through a spot kick in the 60th minute after a teammate was brought down in the goal area.
Lagos Island East and Apapa Golden Stars are top on League B table with a game in hand. Apapa only lead by superior goal difference after 10 games.
In other matches, Oshodi FC held Ifako Ijaiye (FKJ Unted) to a 3-3 draw match in an encounter that lived up to its billings. Yinusa Afeez scored the hat-trick for fako Ijaiye team. These brought his goals tally to five in the league.
