MTN Nigeria Premier League, NPL leaders, Sunshine Stars, have said they are not carried away with their pacesetting start to the 2010/11 campaign in the Nigerian topflight.
Sunshine Stars’ head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, told SuperSport.com at the weekend that he is not surprised with the turn of events at the club this season.
“I know many people will wonder what has been the reason for our performance this season, but I think we have not done enough yet. It is still early in the season.
Though we are leading the table, I am not carried away by our performance. But we want to stay on the top of the table to actualise our ambition,†said Ogunbote.
Asked what Sunshine Stars’ ambition is for this season, the former Gateway Football Club gaffer said his side cannot afford to finish outside of the top three.
Ogunbote also fancies Sunshine Stars’ chance of being crowned winners of the MTN Premier League at the end of the season.
“Last season, we finished in third position on the league table. So, we cannot finish outside of that now. Instead we are aiming high this season, and we also believe that we can win the league this season. But like I said earlier, the season is still early and we will be concentrating on the immediate games for now,†he told SuperSport.com.
Ogunbote’s men play host to Warri Wolves three days before Christmas at the Gateway International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
