The National Convention of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, took off this morning at Ogbe Stadium Benin City, Edo State.
About 5,000 delegates from the 36 states of Nigeria and Abuja are attending the convention.
The immediate past governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Executive Committee members led by Chief Bisi Akande, the National Chairman; Governor Raji Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State; his deputy, Princess Sarah Sosan; Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his deputy; Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and his deputy; former ANPP candidate, now ACN governorship aspirant in Ogun, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Segun Osoba; former Governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo; former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige, were in attendance.
Also present are ACN governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Femi Lanlehin; former ANPP governorship candidate in the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi; former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; a presidential aspirant, Dr. Abiye Sekibo; ACN governorship candidate in Rivers State; Dr. Ismail Adewusi, another governorship candidate in Oyo; Joel Ikenya, a governorship aspirant in Taraba State and Dr. Tom Miyaki, a governorship aspirant from Kogi State.
Former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, Mohammed Belgore, ACN governorship aspirant in Kwara State; Babafemi Ojudu and Dele Alake, both senatorial aspirants in Ekiti State also attended the convention.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, former ACN national organising secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said over 5,000 delegates will attend the convention to elect men into offices such as National Chairman, National Deputy Chairman, Organising Secretary, Financial Secretary and Treasurer.
As at press time, the Ogbe Stadium, venue of the convention was full to its brim. Security operatives had a hectic time controlling the crowd.
Party supporters of governorship, senatorial and even presidential candidates stormed the convention venue with posters and banners of the contestants displayed around the Ogbe Stadium. Handbills were also offered to people around the venue.
P.M.NEWS gathered that some of the national officers are likely to be returned at the convention. One of them is the national organising secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
It was also learnt that the Local Organising Committee of the convention has prepared well enough to produce an acceptable result for the election into various offices.
Other dignitaries at the event are Adesoji Akanbi, a governorship aspirant, Sen. Olorunnimbe Mamora, Prof. Wole Akinboade, Oluwole Akinboade and others.
