Motorists plying the service lane of Hassan/Ilasamaja axis of Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos, have appealed to Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Lagos State government and the state Ministry of Works, to come to mend the road which they say is deplorable.
It was gathered that the road became bad due to the uncleared drains along the road.
It was also learnt that the bad portion has been causing untold traffic gridlock, making motorists to waste several hours during peak periods.
A motorist, Mr. Adesola Ilori, in a chat with Lagos Bulletin, said “we have been passing this road like this for more than a year now, hoping that those in charge would repair it, but with the situation on ground now, we don’t know whether they are aware of its bad state or not.
“We are appealing to whoever is responsible for it rehabilitation to do it immediately.â€
According to Mrs. Doris Chukwu, a resident of Hassan, the damaged service lane has made it difficult for residents to get vehicles to their various destinations, while most of the commuter buses have abandoned it, thereby making most of them to stop on the expressway to pick passengers, an act that is considered as criminal.
She equally appealed to those responsible for road rehabilitation in the state to fix the bad portion of the road to save residents of the area the problem of getting vehicles to their different destinations.
Another resident who pleaded for anonymity blamed the contractor that rehabilitated the road recently for doing a shoddy job.
He suggested that government should give such job to contactors like Julius Berger and other big names in construction work if it is determined to put an end to suffering of road users who ply the road on daily basis.
