...Female Award’ll Spur Me —Nkwocha


Super Falcons’ Perpetua Nkwocha, who was named the Glo-CAF Women’s Footballer Of The Year at the Awards held in Cairo, Egypt, yesterday believes the honour  would spur her to do more for Nigeria.

Nkwocha exhibited high quality and played an influential role in the national team’s performance at major tournaments, especially at the African Women  Championship, AWC, held in South Africa.

“This is a great moment for me and the Super Falcons of Nigeria,” Nkwocha said after receiving her award in Cairo. “The award will inspire me to play more  and I thank the organisers and the coaches who voted for me.”

The free scoring Nkwocha, who was born on 3 January, 1976, also performed creditably  for her club, Sunnana SK of Sweden this season. She  was the top scorer  at the 7th CAF Women’s Championship last November, scoring 11 goals in five matches including two hat-tricks.

She played an influential role as Nigeria reclaimed the title for the sixth time and her fourth personal title after 2002, 2004 and 2006.  The striker, one  of the foremost players of her generation, was adjudged CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year twice in 2004 and 2005.
