President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Christians to pray for God fearing leaders to lead the country come next year.
The president, who came to the auditorium at exactly 10.18pm, was speaking last Friday at Redemption Camp, during the just concluded 13th edition of The Redeemed Christian Church of God annual Holy Ghost Congress.
He said: “Christian should pray for leaders of God’s choice.†He also prayed that God would not allow any politician to impose himself on the nation.
In apparent reference to the prayer of Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, the wife of the General Overseer of the church, when she was praying for Nigeria, President Jonathan promised to deal with all the criminal activities in the country.
He specifically said his government will end kidnapping by middle of 2011 because nobody would want to invest in an area where there is no safety. He, however, solicited for prayers to have courage to do what is right at all time and not to deviate from the way of the Lord.
The President had earlier likened his accession to the throne to that of King David in the Bible. “My story is similar to David. David didn’t expect it; my story is just like that. I never struggle for it. God made me the Deputy Governor and now President,†he said.
He thanked Pastor Adeboye, who he referred to as “our father in the Lordâ€, for his consistent prayer for the nation and urged him not to relent.
The president testified that when he came with the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua in 2007 to seek for divine blessing, all what Pastor Adeboye told them came to pass.
