Sunshine Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote, whose team will vie for title in 2011 Orange CAF Confederation Cup, says there is no cause for alarm as the Akure-based team are drawn to face the winner of the two leg-tie between DFC Arrondissement of Central African Republic and Tiko United of Cameroon in March.
The other Nigeria’s campaigners, Kaduna United, were equally drawn alongside 10 teams in Monday’s draw for the 2011 Caf interclub’s competition in Cairo, Egypt. They would square up against winners of the tie involving Foullah Edifice of Tchad and Sony de Ela Ngueme of Equatorial Guinea.
As much as the former Gateway tactician will admit that there is no more minnows in the continent, Ogunbote told SuperSport.com on telephone on Monday that before his wards start the continental campaign in March, they would have played more league matches that will aid them to put out a solid squad.
“Thank God for the opportunity and the grace to be drawn bye, it is the beginning of good things to come to our club.
“I know there is no push over team any longer, but before we start in March we would have played enough league matches that will help us raise a solid team. We would have been ready to take on any team that comes our way.â€
On today’s mid-week home Nigeria Premier League, NPL match against Warri Wolves, Ogunbote who guided his wards to pick an away point off Niger Tornadoes at the Bako Kontagora stadium, Minna explained that the duel would offer them an opportunity to stay on top of the league.
“Wolves are a big team like us, we are preparing well and this is a chance to consolidate our leadership position on the table.
“Our players know the importance of the match and have vowed to go all out to grab the three points, he said.
