National Cordinator of Odua People’s Congress, Chief Gani Adams, has donated the sum of N200, 000 for the winners of this year’s Gani Adams Cup, which began on Monday at the Abete Playground, Iwaya, Lagos State.
The winners will go home with the sum of N100,000 and a giant trophy, the first runner up will pocket N50,000, while clubs at the third and fourth positions will receive N30,000 and N20,000 respectively.
Addressing journalists recently in his office, Adams said he sponsored the competition because of the love he has for the round leather game. He believes that Nigeria’s youths can do away with social vices and be empowered if sporting activities are organised regularly.
“It is high time we empower our youths. Social vices can be reduced in Lagos and Nigeria at large if there are regular grassroots competitions that can keep our youths busy especially as the Nation prepares for the general elections next year,†he said
Responding, match cordinator, Aliu Ganiu, expressed gratitude to the sponsor for his kind gesture.
He described the cup donor as a sport loving person who has used his wealth and popularity to sponsor the football tournament in his own name.
“We are fully ready to give our best to ensure that this year’s edition surpasses the previous ones.We are aware of the challenges ahead but we want to assure the participating teams and other officials that we are equal to the task,†he said
