A 26 year old house help, Damilare Akano, from Ogun State, was paraded recently by the police in Lagos State for kidnapping his master’s five year old  daughter, Sharon Omolayo, from school.

Damilare has been living with Sharon’s parents for six years before Sharon was born. He relocated with the family from Port Harcourt to Ibadan and later to  Lagos State.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the suspect conspired with his two friends, Lukeman and Ibrahim known as  Iskiru to abduct the little girl from Avi Cenna  International School, GRA, Ikeja. They took her to Alakuko Lukemo’s house before they moved to Ogun State, where they demanded N500,000 from her parents.

The matter was first reported at Area F Police Station and later transferred to the Criminal Intelligent Department, CID, at the command headquarters.

In an efforts to rescue the girl, the state CID traced the kidnappers’ houses and spoke with their parents and wives. They later located their hideout.

When Damilare realised that the state CID had traced their hideout, he opted out and called the girl’s parents, who called the CID.

“I feel bad about it. I don’t know what came over me. They treated me well. They increased my salary from N7,000 to N15,000. I wanted to set up my own  business, though I told my boss and he encouraged me by giving me N40,000 to buy one of my tools I would need as a welder,” he told our reporter after he was  arrested and paraded by the police.

Mr. Omolayo, who spoke on behalf of the family, praised the police for doing a good work and the Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, advised  parents to ensure they check the background of their house helps before employing them.

Mr. Mba also said parents should monitor the activities of their househelps because they can be easily influenced by outsiders.
