Bayelsa State football team have won the just concluded 2010 President Unity U-17 boys football  tournament help on Sunday at the Samson Siasia, Stadium,  Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The hosts, Bayelsa got their first shocker when Femi Moses of Sokoto State scored in the 16th minute to silent the vociferous fans of their opponents.

The goal spurred the home team to put pressure on their opponents. Their effort were rewarded when Emomotimi Omoni got the equaliser in the 70th minute to  end the encounter a goal apiece.

With this victory, Bayelsa have won the title twice. They won it in 2004 in Enugu State. In his reaction, coach Lemmy Appah of Bayelsa, attributed his team’s  success to determination, hard work and prayer.  According to him, adequate preparation as well as friendly matches helped the team to overcome our  opponents.

Coach Aminu Happy of Sokoto commended his boys over their brilliant outing during the game particularly at the final, which he said they lost to hard luck.  “As you can see, we played well but lost through penalty shootout. At that point, it became anybody’s game. So I’m happy that my team gave a good account of  themselves.’ Coach Happy said.
