The finals of the 2010 ipNX Rookies Basketball Championship will hold today inside the Sports Hall of the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, Lagos, South West, Nigeria.
According to the coordinator of the tournament, Mark Balogun, Rookies Academy played in one of the semi finals early today, while the finals of the U-18 Men and Women as well as the finals of the U-16 Men and Women would hold this evening.
Balogun, who is reputed to be one of the best grassroots basketball coaches in the country, described this year’s championship as a huge success, adding that the Rookies Academy and ipNX Nigeria Limited will continue to work closely for the interest of the nation’s youths and the game.
Also, ipNX Nigeria’s Business Development Manager, Segun Okuneye, said that the company is fulfilling one of its obligations of giving back to the society through the championship.
Okuneye said that the management of the Ikeja-based telecom outfit will continue to support the desire of the teeming youths in the state to achieve their goals in lives, especially in the area of basketball development.
Some of the dignitaries expected to grace today’s grand finale are the Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Council, LSSC, Agboola Dabiri, who will be the Special Guest of honour. Dabiri will be coming with other members of the board of the Sports Council, while the Chairman of the Lagos State Basketball Association, Babatunde Ogunade is chief host.
