Jos Crisis Is Political —NIREC

The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, NIREC, has said that the Jos crisis that left scores of people dead and properties worth millions of naira destroyed was politically and religiously motivated.
The Co-Chairman of NIREC, The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar and President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and President of Penticostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Pastor Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor said this at a press conference held at Protea Hotel on Tuesday.
NIREC said that the seemingly unending killings and violence in Jos must stop and called on the relevant authorities to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to book without further delay.
“This will serve as a deterrent to others who might be planning any of such devilish thing in future. It is sad that in spite of all the efforts of the council as well as stakeholders in restoring lasting peace in Jos, it has degenerated into deep ethnic hatred with religious colouration.
“The council condemns in its entirety these recent killings as well as the alleged reprisal attacks by Boko Haram sect in Maiduguri. It is ungodly, barbaric nd inhuman to take the life of a fellow human being unjustifiably. NIREC extends its condolences to the families of the victims as well as Plateau and Borno State governments,†the council stated.
The NIREC stated further: “Every new day throws up new developments that portend grave dangers, if we do not all retrace our steps and toe the path of rectitude.
