The much-anticipated and widely publicised stakeholders’ meeting of Nigerian rugby was held last weekend at the board room of the National Olympic Committee inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, South West Nigeria . It has about 26 rugby stakeholders in Nigeria and five observers in attendance.
According to the coordinator of the meeting, Ntiense O. Williams, the high turn out of stakeholders at the meeting showed that they were prepared to resolve the lingering leadership crisis which has engulfed the board of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, NRFF and resulted in the ban of Nigeria by the International Rugby Board, IRB, since 2009.
“The meeting attended by about 26 rugby delegates drawn from club proprietors, representatives of state associations, representatives of male and female players unions across the country gave the stakeholders the opportunity to ask pertinent questions about the game in the country and the ban of Nigeria from the IRB since 2009,†he said.
At the end of the meeting which lasted for about three hours, an interim seven-man Nigeria Rugby Stakeholder Forum Committee was inaugurated.
Members of the committee include Tunde Akerele as chairman, Edward Pam Fom, representing the North Central, Abdulahi Musa, representing North West, Richard Raphael, representing North East, Obasi Joshua, representing South East, Gbenga Hammed, representing South West and Ntiense Williams, representing South South zone.
