17 Shops Demolished On Lagos Island

By Paul Iyoghojie

A storey building containing 17 shops on Lagos Island was this morning demolished by people suspected to be agents of a developer on Lagos Island.

The shops are located at 1, Oko Awo Street, Lagos Island.

Barrister Lukmon Agboola, the lawyer representing the owner of the building, told PMNEWS this morning that the shops were demolished by a developer he identified as Lukmon, Chief Executive of LEF construction company.

“At about 8 a.m. he brought thugs to demolish the shops  and the excuse he gave was that he got instruction of the family owning the house to demolish the shops,” Agboola told PMNEWS.

He said he had earlier sent a petition to the police on the plan to demolish the building but nothing was done about it. He explained that each of tenants in the shop paid N250,000 through the estate agent, Diya Fatimilehin, to the owner of the building, retired Colonel Henry Afolabi David and his family.

He called on Governor Babatunde Fashola and the state Commissioner of Police to act and avoid bloodshed on the Lagos Island.

Three of the suspects, it was learnt, were arrested.
