DPO Begs Magistrate Over Assault

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, attached to Aswani Division, Isolo, Lagos, South West Nigeria, Mr. London Alero, has apologised to Mr. W.A.O. Meigbope of the Isolo Magistrate’s Court, over the assault on him by policemen who also prevented him from entering the court.

Magistrate Meigbope was yesterday prevented from entering his court for over three hours and in the process assaulted by policemen from the Lagos State Governor’s Office, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The magistrate who was infuriated by the action of the policemen reported the incident to both the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.

In response, the Isolo DPO raced to the scene and ordered the policemen to remove their vehicle from the road and allow the magistrate into the court premises.

He apologised profusely to the magistrate as he led him into the court premises.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the policemen led by an Assistant Superintendent of of Police, ASP Amuda, could not control two of his men who asssaulted the magistrate and collected his writing materials.

The magistrate was helpless as the policemen used their vehicle with registration number CE 980 FST to block his car.

Investigations revealed that the policemen were deployed to the area to provide security at the burial of Fuji icon, late Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.

Following this, the policemen cordoned off all the roads leading to the late musician’s residence, venue of the burial.

Though the corpse of the musician had not arrived at the time of the incident, a police source said the decision to block all the roads leading to his residence was taken to control the expected crowd during the burial.
