Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have summoned an aide of the State Governor Babatunde Fashola and Director General of the Public/Private Partnership Office, Ayo Gbeleyi, over alleged derogatory comments against the House.
The PPP head was said to have called the lawmakers a set of people who do not know why they were elected to represent their constituencies.
He was also alleged by the lawmakers to have called them a “bunch of nicompoops†when he represented the Governor at a meeting with the people of Lekki and Epe areas of the State over issues with the collection of tolls which is billed to commence on 4 January, 2011.
The lawmakers during their sitting accused Mr. Gbeleyi of trying to incite the constituents against them by asking them to be mindful of the kind of people they elect as the representatives in future elections.
Calling the attention of the House to the comments credited to the DG as a matter of urgent public importance, a lawmaker, Hon. Babajide Akinloye, asked the House to act fast on the issue.
Another lawmaker, Oladosu Oshinowo, asked the House to invite Gbeleyi to the house to tell them what they had done wrong to be called names.
Hon. Rotimi Olowo, while supporting his colleagues, said it was time put the Director General in his proper place adding that if nothing was done on the issue, it would become a precedence for others to call the House names in the future.
On her part, Hon. Funmilayo Tejuosho, said Gbeleyi was the least qualified to describe the lawmakers in such light as according to her, the office he is occupying has not been ratified by the House.
According to her and some of her colleagues, Gbeleyi has not been recognised as a public officer, yet he has been receiving salary.
The Speaker, after listening to the complaints of his colleagues, asked that a letter mandating the head of the PPP office to appear before the House be sent to him. He is expected to also appear before the lawmakers with his letter of appointment as head of the PPP office.
