Lagos Co-Operative Society Petitions AIG

Members of the Lagos State Ministry of Finance, Co-operative Multipurpose Society Limited have petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG),  Zone 2 Command over the invasion of their land by suspected thugs who also destroyed properties worth N50 million.

In the petition dated 17 December, 2010 and signed by Mr. Oladimeji Solomon and Mr. Eletu Fatai, President and General Secretary, respectively, they alleged  that about 20 thugs invaded the  30-acre land at Okeketebe village, along Itele Road, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria between 23 November and 16 December, 2010  and demolished houses after unleashing terror on the occupants.

In the same petition sent to the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, the Area Commander, Sango Area Command and Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of  Lagos, the petitioners claimed that the thugs were armed with  dangerous weapons, including guns.

The petitioner claimed that the land was  acquired in 2004 from Kupoliyi and Bata Erin Odo Idota Family and a certificate of occupancy issued by the Ogun  State Government in respect of it on 31January, 2010.

Titled: “Encroachment on parcel of land belonging to the  Lagos State Ministry of Finance Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited: Threat to Lives and  Properties,” the petitioners stated: “They have robbed our members and destroyed properties worth millions of naira; we therefore seek the intervention of  the AIG to avert further loss of lives and properties.”

President of the society, Mr. Oladimeji said some of the hoodlums arrested by the police with dangerous weapons during the attack had already been released  without being prosecuted.

Specifically, he said 15 buildings were destroyed, while one Mr. Segun Oladimeji was severely battered by the thugs and chased out of his house.
