Dolphin Extend Lead

A speculative Uche Oguchi strike on the stroke of halftime gave Dolphin of Port Harcout a 1-0 win over Heartland and extend their led at the top of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) with Sunday’s games to come.

The game was the second Dolphin were playing behind closed doors at their home ground, the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium, following a ruling reached by the NPL after the unsavoury incidents in the Port Harcourt side’s home game against Warri Wolves on December 11, 2010.

The leaders started strongly, dominating the visitors without creating many clear cut opportunities. It took all of 24 minutes for Dolphin to muster their first real threat at the oppositions’ underbelly but Emma Nwachi’s header off an Uche Oguchi cross fizzed across the face of goal.

The visitors responded through Chibuzor Okonkwo’s audacious 35 yard free kick that was never going to beat Sunday Rotimi. Goal chances were at a premium as Dolphin continued to boss possession.
