It’s 2011
Welcome to 2011. Just like every other person, you have moved into this year with so many expectations. I believe you have every cause to rejoice and be grateful to your maker. Remember that so many women like you were in the Abuja market shopping for the New Year without knowing that death was just by the corner. But thank God you are still living.
How did it go with your family and friends during the holidays? Were you able to spread the gospel of love to everyone you came in contact with? How peaceful was your home and your life during this period? How did you treat your in-laws and even your own parents? Are you one of those who got lost and carried away by different celebrations that they forgot the reason for the season?
As a young woman, was it a season to get involved in different immoral acts that you found yourself jumping from one bed to the other? Did you find yourself lost in alcohol and other things that brought reproach to womanhood? You sold your body to different men in desperation for marriage, when is he taking you to the altar? If you didn’t get it right in 2010, it’s never too late to make amends.
Before I go on, I want you to hear this; 2011 is a year that you really have to be very careful in. Remember it is time for elections. Lives, more lives are going to be lost through accidents, carelessness, and rituals by politicians and their agents. Women are more at risk here because the gullible ones will be used for their pepper soup. Haven’t you realised that majority of people who fall prey to these wicked humans are women and children?
They are going to take lives through accidents and this is why you have to be careful how you travel this year. Also make sure that whatever you are travelling for is right and wherever you are going is a place to be proud of. You may be wondering why Amara is talking this way, I had another topic in mind when I started this article, but I found myself writing this. When you are in the wrong place and you are faced with the destroyer, there is little God can do to deliver you. Make it a year that you can only go to the right places and at the right time.
This is not a year for all that stuff girls do. This is not a year to party endlessly. Don’t make this a year to constantly hang out with friends while your children suffer. This shouldn’t be a year to maltreat your househelp. Please don’t go into this year fighting your mother-in-law and neighbours. This is not a year to keep malice. Please make it a year for peace and love.
This shouldn’t be a year for ungodly living. Don’t makes it a year to go on living carelessly and making those sacred parts of your body free for all. It is a pity that mothers, so many mothers, are still guilty of this. What are you doing with that bum short? Some women come up with the defence that their husband wants it that way. My question is this; are you going to destroy the younger generation, the fruits of your very own womb just because your husband wants it that way? Have you forgotten there are those little eyes watching you and desiring to be like you? I was shocked the day my little daughter said; mummy, everything you are and wanted to be is what I am going to be.
You have made your New Year resolutions. You have written out your plans for this year. In your resolution; did you make a decision to become a better mother to your children? Are you ready to be the wife you should be? In your work place, who are you going to be this year? In your community and in the market, what name are you going to be called this year? You have always been known as the rumour monger in the community. You know what goes on in everybody’s life, home, and business. Do you want to go on the way you are while your mates are busy making meaningful use of their time? I feel so ashamed as a woman when I see my fellow women shouting and quarrelling in the market. How do you think your children feel having a mother who fights and does all manner of bad things in public?
In the area of religion, how was your spiritual life last year? How did it go with your maker in 2010? I didn’t get it right as I should and I am sure you were also not satisfied with your style of living and worship last year. But we are in 2011 and we are blessed to be alive. How dedicated were you to the service of your creator in 2010? Were you among those women who dressed half-naked to church last year? I am sure you are wondering why she is just talking about church. I don’t think our Muslim sisters dress to expose their bodies, I give it to them. But in Christianity, our leaders are now after money that they allow anything in church. Mothers dress their daughters anyhow to church. You have your son sag like prisoners in America and you see nothing wrong about it. Please let us make amends and return to the faith we received from our mothers.
Even the old women are not left out. I recently told a friend that one of the reasons we no longer have respect for old age is that the old people themselves no longer respect themselves. When we have an old woman dress like a teenager, dye her hair to cover up age, and go clubbing, what do you expect? We see them attend every party in town even when they are not invited. Let the old women go back to our culture and begin to put the younger women through for a better tomorrow. A friend recently said something that got me thinking; Amara, with the way Nigerian women are going, I am sure that in the next ten years, there will be no wife to marry.
I have heard about mothers supporting their children for exam malpractices. What on earth will make a mother, who should be struggling to bring her children up with the right values, give out money for impersonation and bribery? Our educational standard is falling and instead of mothers fighting for quality education, they are busy using their money to buy results for their children. This is why I tell everyone who cares to know to be careful when it comes to choosing schools for their children. A good number of private schools that boast of good results are nothing but cheaters den. All they do is connive with the appropriate authorities for good results.
2011 will be a wonderful year. Some of us fasted for days into the New Year. Others slept in their churches and mosques with different words of prophecies from the clerics. Let me tell you this; faith without work is dead. Let your pastor endlessly lay hands on you and speak all those good words you want to hear. Move all over town with ten stickers on your car; without the right attitude to work, home, business, and life in general, nothing will happen.
There are laws and principles of life and they must be applied for change to occur. You can spend your time this year attending all the night vigils and visiting all the prayer houses in town. You can fast and pray for forty days and nights. But without you doing things right, there will be no change. Change your attitude, Change your life.
