Karate: Federation To Organise Kiddies Festival In Abuja

The Karate Federation of Nigeria, KFN has concluded plans to organise Kiddies Karate Festival & Inter-Clubs Championship, which will hold from 23 to 29 January at the National Stadium, Abuja.

The kiddies festival is aimed at promoting the game of Karate at the grassroots.

Secretary of the federation, Clement Iyaluegbeghe, said the-five day event is being organised to develop the spirit of sportsmanship among the kids, adding that the time has come to introduce the game to primary school pupils so that young Karatekas will be discovered for future championships.

According to him, the championship is a developmental programme that will help the young lads  develop interest in karate. It will also create a platform for national coaches to discover talents ahead of the All Africa Games.

Iyaluegbeghe also disclosed that there will be a national referees’ course during the event, saying the course is necessary for officials to update their knowledge about the latest rules of the game.

When asked if Nigeria will do well in karate at the forthcoming All Africa Games in Mozambique later this year, the scribe said Nigeria can boast of  better Karatekas than other Africa countries, believeing the nation will clinch many gold medals in the festival.
