The crisis rocking the Ogun chapter of the PDP continued unabated, as two governorship candidates emerged at two parallel primaries held at two different locations in Abeokuta.

The candidates are Gen. Adetunji Olurin a former Military Administrator of old Oyo State and Mr. Gboyega Isiaka, an ardent supporter of Gov. Gbenga Daniel and former Managing Director of Gateway Holding.

While the governor’s faction held its primaries at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, the other faction loyal to Sen. Jubril Martins-Kuye, the Minister of Commerce, held its own at the nearby Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

Olurin, a former ECOMOG Field Commander, emerged winner with 754 votes out of the 806 total votes cast at his own faction, while Isiaka was declared winner, having polled 831 votes out of 866 votes cast.

Olurin told newsmen shortly after emerging winner that what happened was the beginning of a good transformation. He said that it was an indication that the state would soon witness a people-oriented administration devoid of deceit.

“This is the beginning of good transformation and a determination that something good is coming to Ogun. “Now that I have been given the ticket, what I will promise the good people of Ogun is good governance, I will serve them diligently; there will be transparency and we will carry all stakeholders along,” he stressed.

A former Commissioner for Environment in the state, Chief Anthony Ojesina came a distant second to Olurin with 22 votes, while Mr. Leye Odunjo recorded 19 votes.

The primaries at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, was witnessed by the governor and Speaker Dimeji Bankole. Isiaka, while addressing party faithful shortly after being declared winner, said that he felt humbled by the “overwhelming support” given to him by party members.

He said that the victory was not for him, but for the Yewa/Awori people (where he comes from) and the entire people of the state.

He extended his hands of fellowship to co-contestants and other aggrieved members of the party, urging them to work together with him so that PDP could win the general elections.

The Chairman of the electoral committee for Daniel’s faction, retired Col. Abdul-Mumini Aminu, said that only three members of his committee were around to conduct the primaries.
