2,340 DDC Machines For Benue
Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission in Benue State said it has taken delivery of 2,340 Direct Data Capture, DDC, machines as well as 200 generators to be used in the state for the voters’ registration exercise beginning on 15 January.
This was disclosed by Alhaji Nasir Ayilara, Benue State Resident Electoral Commissioner   at a one day consultative interactive meeting with stakeholders in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The REC revealed that staff and ad-hoc staff comprising mainly 2010/2011 NYSC members and senior students of  Federal Tertiary Institutions in the state have been trained to conduct the registration exercise.
Alhaji Ayilara maintained that the commission was ready to leave a legacy for  Nigerians by ensuring that  a generally acceptable polls will be conducted, urging people of voting age to assist the commission to organise a hitch-free polls in the country.
His words: “We are determined to ensure that the forthcoming polls meet internally acceptable standards. That is why I can assure Benue people that I will rather resign my position as REC than compromise my integrityâ€.
In addition, the REC said  the commission was collaborating  with  all relevant security agencies in the country to ensure that elections were held without major incidents.
On the forthcoming  registration exercise, the REC warned assigned registration officers  of the position of the law, revealing  that the law stipulates one year jail term for any officer who engages in double registration.
