Muslim Group Condemns Jos Bombings
The Companion, an association of Muslim men and women in different professions, has condemned the recent bombings which rocked the nation, particularly in Abuja and Jos where scores of innocent Nigerians lost their lives.
President of the association, Alhaji Sabit Wale Sonaike made the condemnation during the monthly public lecture of the group held at the Lagos State House of Assembly Mosque complex. The theme of the lecture was: ‘The Significance of Hijrah in Nation Building: A Case Study of Medina.’
Alhaji Sonaike described the killing of innocent people as unIslamic and called on government to apprehend the perpetrators.
“We have not really made our intention public because it’s difficult to conclude if the bombings in Abuja and Jos are religious, ethnic or militancy. However, we condemn the perpetrators because killing of innocent soul is totally un-Islamic.
“We are of the opinion that Nigeria is a country that needs spiritual support,†he added.
Also condemning the wanton killings, a legal practitioner and Islamic scholar, Dhikrullahi Olakunle Hassan, said the perpetrators of the bombings must be punished, adding that “it is totally un-Islamic for anybody to take laws into his hand.â€
The guest lecturer said it is high time for Nigeria, as a country, to change its course of history from being one of the corrupt countries in the world to a society where justice and righteousness thrive.
He called on the government to provide job opportunities and basic amenities of life to its citizens, stressing that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.
Hassan also urged youths to shun violence and not allow themselves to be used by politicians in the coming general elections.
