Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora has withdrawn from the Lagos East Senatorial race and paved the way for the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Lands  Bureau, Mr. Gbenga Ashafa to step in.

Mamora was expected to contest the primary election for the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN ticket for the Lagos East Senatorial District with Ashafa  tomorrow but he stepped down for him yesterday to allow Ashafa to return unopposed.

Mamora, Deputy Senate Minority Leader announced his withdrawal from the race yesterday at his office in Lagos and raised up the hands of Ashafa.

“It has become expedient for me to withdraw from the race for the Lagos East Senatorial District in the forthcoming election for the following reasons;  political operational strategy, the desire for sense of belonging and participation by other components of the senatorial district,” he stated.

Mamora said he decided to withdraw from the contest after due consultations with party elders and his supporters, adding that he wanted to avoid undue  confrontation and ensure that peace reign in the party.

Mamora has already spent two terms of eight years at the Senate and a term as Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly.

Accepting his nomination, Ashafa said he would always need Mamora for guidance on legislative matters and commended him for his bravery.

Ashafa picked the ACN form last Thursday to vie for the senate seat.
