Beecroft Junction Turns Refuse Dump
Residents of Beecroft, Igbosere Street and motorists passing through Igbosere road on a daily basis have called on the Lagos State Waste Management Authority to come to their aid at Igbosere/Beecroft junction, Lagos Island and urgently evacuate the refuse that is gradually building up there before it becomes a permanent dumpsite.
Some of the residents who spoke with P.M.NEWS said the refuse heap has been growing since December, 2010. According to Sanni Olusanya, a resident of the area, “LAWMA officials have been doing a good job in refuse evacuation, but since December 2010, we don’t know why they have refused to live up to expectation.”
As the refuse mounts, motorists now bring rubbish from their houses at odd hours to add to the dump.
One of the residents who gave his name as Femi Adedoyin said that though the Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya cannot be everywhere, which was why he appointed monitoring officials everywhere, but it appears the officials on Lagos Island are not living up to expectation. “They should be sanctioned for trying to rubbish the good work of their Managing Director,” he added.
Oother areas where refuse heaps are prevalent are St. Gregory’s College road, and beside the Nigerian Police Children School close to the Ministry of Urban Development office in Ikoyi.
