Danfo Drivers Accuse Police Of Extortion
Motorists plying Oyingbo to Ijora, Ajegunle, Apapa, Wharf, driving through Ijora Olopa have called on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo to come to put a stop to the extortion spree some unscrupulous policemen are perpetrating at Ijora Olopa on a daily basis.
Some of the motorists who spoke with P.M.NEWS said the activities of the policemen every night and early in the morning is not only denting the image of the Nigeria Police and the integrity of good and honest officers, but frustrating the motorists.
Narrating their modus operandi to P.M.NEWS, Suraju, who plies Oyingbo to Ijora said the present Commissioner of Police has tried his best to bring sanity to the police rank and file in Lagos State, but some policemen, whose division could not be ascertained and who are not ready to change their ways, have refused to embrace the changes.
“They normally collect N100 from drivers between 5 a.m till 8 a.m in the full glare of passengers and from 7 p.m. till 12 p.m in the night. If a driver tries to explain to them that he has just started work, they would threaten to shoot him. We want the Commissioner of Police to help us apprehend them because they can shoot any driver to death any time and they would call him armed robber,” Suraju added..
