I’m Still At Heartland FC

Veteran football administrator, Ignatius Okeahialam, has dispelled rumours that he is no longer in charge of Nigeria Premier League (NPL) club, Heartland FC of Owerri.

Okeahialam has been a part of the Heartland team for over two decades under different designations.

Following a mild shake up in the administrative set up of the club, it was rumoured that General Mnanager, Fan Ndubuoke and not Okeahialam was the head of  the club’s board.

“I am still the chairman of this club. Fan (Ndubuoke) is the General Manager in charge of the day to day running of the club. But he is answerable to the  board and I am the chairman of the board,” Okeahialam told SuperSport.com.

Heartland, one of the traditional sides in the (NPL), have posted less than impressive results in the league this term.

The Naze millionaires are 12th on the log with 14 points from 10 matches, a far cry from headier days in the club.

Less than two years ago, Heartland were playing against TP Mazembe in the final of the CAF Champions’ League but Okeahailam believes happier days lie ahead.

“The fact that we have had one or two bad results in the league does not mean we have become a bad side overnight. We still have very good players in the  squad,” he said.
