Mr. Samson Hassan has dragged his wife, Mrs. Taiwo Hassan, 43 before the Agege Customary Court presided over by Mr. E. B. Shokunle, seeking for a divorce.  The duo live at Gas Line, Ijoko Road, Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

Mr. Hassan explained that the marriage of 12 years and blessed with three kids should be dissolved because of irreconciliable differences.

He also attributed his reason for seeking divorce to the sudden change in the behaviour of his wife after the marriage.

The estranged couple had three kids, Taiye, 9, Kehinde, 9 and Sope, 6.

“I have caught my wife with different men in a place not befitting of a married woman while we were still together.

“I also caught my wife with a man she claimed owed her N300,000 when she was six months pregnant. On another occasion, I caught her with another man whom she  described as her old school mate,” he told the court.

He told the court further that his estranged wife left their matrimonial home for days without any cogent reason.

“She does not care about her children which is unbecoming of a good housewife and a mother. What kind of a wife will leave her matrimonial home without  caring about what becomes of her husband and children?” he asked.

In her response, the respondent denied the allegations and accused her husband of being a violent man. “I don’t go out at all nor visit people. It is my  husband that always beat me on flimsy excuses. I even took a photograph of the wounds I sustained from one of such beatings from my husband,” she disclosed.

She told the court that she used to be a hairdresser before she got married to Hassan who stopped her from practicing her trade. “As a good wife, I obeyed my  husband because I wanted peace and harmony in the marriage,” Mrs. Taiwo added.

Mrs. Taiwo told the court further that she was not against the petition but urged the court to direct the petitioner to grant her N70,000 monthly as upkeep  allowance for her and the three children of the union.

After listening to the parties, the court adjourned the case till 13 January, 2011 and requested that the children of the marriage be brought to court by the  next adjourned date.
