Nigerian League Update: Holland Returnee, Afolabi Land At Tornadoes
Nigeria Premier League side, Niger Tornadoes, have indicated seriousness to change their fortunes with the addition of Abdulwaheed Afolabi, a striker who recently returned from Holland to the club.
Afolabi was at Dutch second division side, BV Veendam on trials.
Founded on September 4, 1894, Veendam is one of the oldest professional Dutch football clubs and is planing a return to the Dutch Eredivisie.
The forward played for a selected Veendam side against FC Groningen, BV Veendam and Cambuur Leeuwarden.
Chairman of Niger Tornadoes, Suleiman David, confirmed the arrival of Afolabi.
“Afolabi will boost our attack as we plan ahead. He was with us before his journey abroad. Sunshine wanted his services, but he preferred to rejoin us. We’re happy to have him,†David said to SuperSport.com.
The club’s boss identified the attack as the team’s weakest point after the duo of Samuel Tswanya and David Amanyi headed for Enyimba.
Eugene Salami, the club’s leading goal scorer last term, has been busy trying to seal a deal abroad.
“It’s only nine matches left for the mid-season break. We intend to reposition the team ahead of the second round of the league.
Darlington Ihejiene, another forward, has added bite to the attack,†he stated.
Tornadoes have scored 7 goals in 10 matches and are placed 16th on the 20-team log with 10 points.
