‘We’ll Enhance Quality Of Life’; Through Science, Tech

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan has reiterated the determination of the Lagos State Government to explore and utilize  science and technology to enhance the quality of life of Lagosians for rapid development of the state.

Speaking at the opening of the Science and Technology camp held recently at the Lagos State Model College, Kankon, Badagry in Lagos State, the Deputy  Governor said, science and technology is to modern life what the hands are to the body.

The science and technology camp was organised by the state ministry of Science 7 Technology for students in public schools in the state.

According to her, “Science and technology are necessary tolls to be applied to every facet of human endeavour such as science education, applied sciences,  industrial development, transportation, economic development, environmental development, agriculture.”

In continuation, she said “the State Government having realised the importance of science and technology decided to upgrade the office of the Special Adviser  on Information Technology and Special Services to a full fledge Ministry in February 2004 in order to make governance technologically driven with science and  technology playing a pivotal role.

Welcoming the participants, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat said “science and technology provides the bases for  development in all facets of human endeavours and services as the yardstick for measuring the rate of economics development in any nation.

Other highlights of the camp exercise were quiz and debate competitions, excursion to historic places around Badagry like the first storey building in  Nigeria, Slave Port and Badagry West Local Council Development Area office.

While giving a vote of thanks at the occasion, Engr. (Mrs.) Fausat Modupeola Masha the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology said, “we are  very happy that the occasion turned out to be a memorable one to the students,” and promised a better one during the second edition.
