Group Wants Results Cancelled
Against the backdrop of raging controversies over the results of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN’s, National Assembly primaries, a rights group, Citizens for Popular Democracy, CFPD, has called for outright cancellation of the results.
According to the convener of the group, Mr. Fatai Olukunle, it is a shame that ACN could descend so low to conduct a primary election that lacks credibility.
He hinged this on the fact that its intelligence reports showed that the ACN only used the primaries to fool Nigerians.
Specifically, he disclosed that unlike the PDP primaries which was transparent, that of ACN was shrouded in secrecy.
Olakunle lamented that this was because of the desperation of some of its leaders to have their way at all costs. He said it was so bad that even aspirants’Â agents were not allowed to monitor the exercise to ensure transparency.
Worse still, the rights group wondered why the Lagos ACN would announce results unsigned by agents who were supposed to monitor the exercise.
The group said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should not accept the results of the primaries.
According to the group, the electoral body had made it abundantly clear that such illegalities would not stand.
The CFPD said it was happy that INEC was backed by law to reject sham election results, adding that the Lagos ACN National Assembly results must be the first casualty.
According to the group, what happened regarding the primaries, no doubt, exposed why the party lost the bye election in Ikorodu recently.
Speaking further, the group assured Professor Attahiru Jega of its readiness to supply necessary evidence to support its claims.
This, he said, will expose the ACN which daily berates the PDP, but is far worse than the ruling party in the application of due process.
