Obasanjo Congratulates Jonathan, Sambo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo for winning the PDP Presidential Primary election.
Obasanjo, who is the Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman of the PDP, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) soon after the declaration of Jonathan as the Presidential candidate of the PDP for the April general elections, that it had been a hard fought battle.
“I congratulate all the participants. In a special way, I congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo for winning the first mandate to contest the election.
“The euphoria of success in the primaries should not make us forget the tremendous challenges ahead and the need for hardwork to get elected thereafter.
“They should prepare to give first class administration to help Nigeria overcome its challenges, he said.
NAN reports that at Thursday’s Special National Convention of the party which lasted into early Friday, Jonathan polled 2,736 votes out of a total votes cast of 3,507 to defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who polled 805 votes.
The Chief Returning Officer of the election and Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, said that 61 votes were voided at the election.
