Police Arraign 7 For Kidnapping

The Police in Bauchi on Tuesday charged seven suspects to court for allegedly kidnapping one Alhaji Shehu Umar, a defeated PDP House of Representatives aspirant.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspects were arraigned before a Bauchi Chief Magistrate’s Court for criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and kidnapping.
Umar, who was allegedly kidnapped from his house on Jan. 15 at about 1.20 a.m., had contested and lost the PDP House of Representatives primaries for Toro/Jama’a Federal Constituency in the state.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the suspects are alleged to have kidnapped Umar of number 9, Kano Road, GRA Bauchi.
The FIR further alleged that the suspects forced their victim into a Jaguar model salon car with registration number AE 54 ZAK to an unknown destination.
It further explained that the victim’s wife allegedly alerted one Mohammed Saleh, who also reported the incident to the GRA Police Division in Bauchi metropolis.
The FIR alleged that Umar was kidnapped by one Danayanu Suwaibidu and six others.
It said the police later sent a rescue mission to the house of Suwaibidu, the first accused, cordoned off the area and rescued the victim at gun point before subsequently arresting the suspects.
The police had recovered one pump action gun, a single barrel gun, two dane guns, a Jaguar car and two ropes from the suspects.
According to the police, the offences are contrary to the Penal Code Law and the Firearms Act of 2004.
The suspects include one Danayanu Suwaibidu, Abdullahi Isa, Jamilu Ustaz and Yusuf Usman.
Others are Suleman Sambo, Mohammed Aliyu and Mohammed Dambam.
The Police Prosecuting Officer, Insp. Baban-Sarki Hussaini, urged the court to adjourn the case to another date to enable the police to complete investigations.
Hussaini also urged the court to remand the suspects in prison custody.
The Magistrate, Isa Shuaibu, granted the request and ordered that the suspects to be remanded in prison custody.
Magistrate Shuaibu adjourned the case to Feb. 15 and ordered the police to complete investigation before the date.
