Aftermath Of Ikorodu By-Election: Oshin Replaces Shotomiwa

The Lagos state House of Assembly on Monday officially swore in Olugbenga Oshin, who won the by-election to the House on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Oshin who was given a certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 23 December, 2010 to replace Rotimi Shotomiwa of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), who died on 26 October, 2010 after a brief illness, now represents Ikorodu Constituency 2 seat at the House.
Oshin, accompanied by a large number of party supporters who crowded the gallery, was sworn in after he took the oath of membership, oath of office and the oath of allegiance before other members at the floor of the House.
While commenting on the bye-election that produced Oshin, Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji said: “It is our custom to uphold the constitution and the law. We believe that Lagos must do it right so that others may follow. Honourable Oshin is now a member of the sixth Assemblyâ€.
While responding to his swearing in, the newly inaugurated Assemblyman promised his constituents better representation.
He also said that he was not threatened by the fact that majority of the lawmakers were members of the ACN, adding that he was prepared to work with them for the progress of the state.
“Lagosians should expect good governance, which the PDP is noted for,†he said.
His supporters told Assembly Matters that they were confident that Hon. Oshin, would put the challenges faced by the people of his constituency, which includes poor state of road network, dilapidated schools and poor health facilities, before the government.
