‘Be Patient With INEC’
The General Overseer of the Cherubim and Seraphim, Iri-Ibukun, Worldwide, Prophet Adebowale Adedeji has called on Nigerians to exercise patience with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as it tries to normalise the operations of the direct data capture machines acquired for the voter registration exercise.
He said all hands must be on deck to ensure that the 2011 election was free and fair.
Adedeji made this appeal while outlining activities lined up to mark the church’s 15th anniversary scheduled to hold between 17 and 23 January, 2011 at the church’s headquarters, Mosan Town, Lagos, South West Nigeria.
He warned that the nation cannot afford to make more mistakes with the 2011 elections when smaller nations like Ghana got it right, adding that credible polls remained the panacea to achieving economic development.
The cleric warned the electorate to vote for only credible candidates, saying that those who had a hand in pulling the country backward must not be allowed to serve in the next political dispensation.
“God will help us get it right this time and put the right people in the right positions. Nigeria is presently sick, but God has promise to heal the land and show the whole world that indeed Nigeria is God’s own country.â€
He lamented the crisis that rocked the primaries of several political parties, stressing that it was a bad prelude to the election proper.
Adedeji said the issue of electoral financing should be addressed to minimise the formation of mushroom parties that are only interested in the money given to them by the government for elections.
“So many parties do not have candidates but they are registered because their aim is just to collect the money and then they go into oblivion. Until we do something about electoral financing, we will still be going round in circles,†he said.
