Chief Executive Officer of Air Nigeria, Knife Kahssaye

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has reissued an Air Operator’s Certificate, AOC, to Air Nigeria to continue with passenger and cargo flight operations, the airline said in a statement yesterday.

The Chief Executive Officer of Air Nigeria, Mr. Kinfe Kahssaye, said the development further reaffirms the existing safety standards of the airline while also noting that another significant change that will be seen across the operations of the airline.

“We have consistently adhered to global aviation safety requirements and our operations are carried out by a well maintained fleet of aircraft as well as support from a competent workforce and it is our commitment to continually maintain the standards.

“The reissuance of our Air Operator’s Certificate is coming at an auspicious time when we are implementing a fast and profitable growth plan to further expand our frontiers through the acquisition of modern fleet of aircraft as well as the introduction of new routes on both domestic and regional network to serve our customers better,” Kahssaye said.

The airline said that the re-issuance of the AOC to Air Nigeria is another major milestone in the ongoing turn-around initiatives of the airline, especially as the airline continues to adhere to global best practices in stabilizing and positioning the airline on the path of profitability.

Meanwhile, Arik Air has announced that it has airlifted a total of 6.27m passengers since commencing operations on 30 October 2006.

The company’s Senior Vice President, Commercial, Mr. Kelvin Steele, who made the disclosure added that he airline is offering services to 27 destinations within and outside Nigeria.

Steele also said that Arik Air operates a fleet of 26 state-of-the art regional, medium haul and long haul aircraft.

He disclosed that in 2010, the carrier airlifted a total of 2.3 million passengers.

The company’s spokesman, Mr. Ola Adebanji, said that the figures show that there was an increase in the passenger traffic by 15% compared TO 2009 figures.

He noted that the month of December was quite exceptional for the airline as it was able to carry 241,700 passengers.

“Daily passenger record peaked at 10, 164 passengers on Thursday, 23 December 2010, the highest ever since the airline started operations in 2006,”he said.
