Task Force Impounds N1 Billion Goods

Barely two weeks after its inauguration in Abuja by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Alhaji Dikko Abdulahi Inde, the Customs Joint Task Force on 100 per cent cargo examination recently impounded 23 containers of general goods, 10 of which were textile materials.
The total duty paid value (DPV) estimated for the seized containers is about N1billion, while a suspect was arrested in connection with the seizures.
Addressing newsmen after inspecting the containers which were warehoused at the APM Terminal in Apapa, the Customs Controller, Apapa Area 1 Command, Mr. Abdulkadir Azarema alongside the chairman and leader of the task force, Comptroller Ekporwei Edike Charles, explained that the textiles were seized because Customs had not yet received any official directive to implement the lifting of the ban on the importation of textile materials.
