Dep. Gov. Decries Low Turnout
The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Babayo Gamawa has decried the low turnout of women in the ongoing voter registration in some parts of the state.
Gamawa made this known while inspecting the exercise in some registration units in Itas/ Gadau, in Jama’are and Katagum Local Government Areas of the state.
He urged husbands to allow their wives and their eligible children, to come out and register to enable them vote in the 2011 general elections.
The deputy governor also urged traditional rulers, religious leaders and other opinion leaders in the state to mobilise their people to register.
According to him, the voter’s card is the only weapon for them to elect leaders of their choice, adding that data obtained from the exercise would enable the government allocate resources judiciously.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in all the polling units visited by the deputy governor, notable problems were low turnout of women, inadequate registration materials and faulty Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines.
