The Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa, has appealed to his people to present their children for vaccination against polio in order to get rid of the disease in the country.
Isa made the call at an enlightenment campaign, aimed at mobilising the people to participate in the exercise in Mubi on Sunday.
He warned the people against rejecting the vaccines and noted that such attitude was responsible for the prevalence of polio in Nigeria.
“The vaccines are not harmful and protect children from polio.
“You should also encourage your wives to take their vaccines. The vaccine for women is free and it has no adverse effects on reproductive health,†Isa said.
Meanwhile, an official said that some 33, 000 children were immunised against polio in the last round of immunisation Plus Days (IPDs) in Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.
The Director, Primary Health Care (PHC), Alhaji Kabiru Sadiq, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that some 40,620 doses of oral polio vaccines (OPV) were used for the exercise.
He said more than 250 workers, consisting of vaccinators, health educators and supervisors, worked in the 20 health districts of the area during the exercise.
“We deployed 28 teams of vaccinators for effective house-to-house immunisation against polio and other diseases,†Sadiq said.
He said the Agency had trained vaccinators on special communication and behaviour change to enable them to resolve vaccine rejection and promote participation among the people.
