Seme Customs Realises N5.4b
The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service realised N5,495,795,684.16 as revenue in 2010.
The command also made 541 seizures with a duty paid value (DPV) of N446,953,886.40.
A statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Olottah, revealed an increase of 46.46 percent in the comparative analysis of the revenue figures for 2009 and 2010.
According to him, the increase was possible through the various operational strategies introduced by Comptroller Maitama Kura, the Seme Customs Area Command Controller, who on assumption consulted with stakeholders, community leaders and the security agencies.
He stated that the anti-smuggling drive of the command was fully on ground during the yuletide to abort any attempt to compromise the nation’s economy and security under any guise. This, he disclosed, led to the increase in revenue generation and reduction in smuggling.
“Our resolve to battle smuggling at Seme, which is the busiest land frontier in the West African region will remain unrelenting. My officers and men are ever determined and motivated to carry out our responsibilities without fear or favour,†Maitama Kura was quoted as saying.
He added that the achievements of the command were made possible by the logistics and welfare packages
