Senator Folarin Knows Fate March 15

Justice Okanola Akintunde Boade of the Oyo State High Court, Ring Road, Ibadan today  adjourned hearing in the suit filed by the Oyo State Government against the Senate  Majority Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin and nine others over their involvement in  the murder of the factional leader of the NURTW, Alhaji Lateef Salako, alias  Eleweomo till 15 March, 2011.

While Justice Boade observed that the accused should have been brought to court,  their counsel, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, argued on points of law that there was no  need bringing them to court.

Akintola argued further that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the suit  which has been struck out by a court of similar jurisdiction.

The defence counsel explained that though the state governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala has  the right to protect residents of the state, he does not understand the interest of  the court in the matter when the complainant, the police, have withdrawn the charge  filed against the accused for further investigation.

Akintola told P.M.NEWS after the adjournment of the matter that the application  would fail in its entirety.

Responding earlier, the Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. H.F. Sule maintained  that the accused ought to have been brought to court.

He appealed to the court for more time to peruse the application submitted by  counsel to the accused, stressing that three applications were filed by the counsel  and the government required time to study them to be able to respond accordingly.

Oyo State Government through the DPP had earlier told the magistrate and the high  court that it is not a party to the release of Senator Folarin and vowed to continue  his prosecution for murder..

The DPP said the government would ensure that whoever killed Senator Folarin is  brought to book.
