Lagosians Forced To Use Pedestrian Bridges
Lagosians who are fond of crossing the expressway even when there are pedestrian bridges are in trouble, as officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, will begin the enforcement of use of pedestrian bridges across the state tomorrow.
The sensitisation exercise had been going on across the state to sensitise Lagosians to use the pedestrian bridges instead of crossing the expressway and risk being knocked down by vehicles.
Speaking at the take-off of the sensitization exercise at Ojota, Head of the KAI Bridgade, Captain Danjuma Maigeri (rtd) urged the people to use of footbridges since they ensured safety of lives and also prevent traffic hold ups.
He said the use of the pedestrian bridges would significantly reduce the death toll at such locations, adding that apart from their presence to ensure compliance, his men would also assist pregnant women, the sick and the disabled to cross the road.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the Environment, Mrs. Titi Anibaba urged the officials to play their role diligently in line with Governor Babatunde Fashola’s directive.
According to her, their role was to facilitate free flow of traffic by stopping pedestrians crossing roads and saving lives.
She warned them to desist from acts capable of tarnishing the image of the outfit, adding that a supporting mobile court was also planned for the area to try offenders.
